In celebration of Grab Your Greens and POWER teaming up this spring for the Food Challenge, Janine treated us to a very special dinner last week at Little Hen Restaurant in Holly Springs. We dined on the Vegetarian Farmstead Feast and every. single. bite. was melt-in-your-mouth delicious! We did miss our Jenni, though, the "other half" of POWER who was sick and unable to join us.
The meal was prepared in five courses, each offering local (the furthest farm is Pittsboro) and fresh produce. Chef & Owner, Regan Stachler's restaurant gives "farm to table" a whole new meaning in the Triangle area. His creative talents in the kitchen brought out the natural flavors in each dish. As we wrapped up our leisurely three hour dinner, Chef Regan dropped by our table for a visit. We enjoyed hearing some behind the scenes details of the restaurant business and what it has taken to bring success to Little Hen. They recently received a glowing review in the News & Observer.
We began our feast with some Boozy Cherries. Soaked in sherry and burbon, these were a real treat! We failed to take a picture of our appetizer, a sweet, warm fig dish.
This was followed by a tomato salad with watermelon, gruyere, and chives. These deliciously sweet farm-fresh tomatoes put the supermarket variety to shame!
The third course was a yummy bread and cheese board. Followed by our main dish, a board overflowing with peaches, sweet potatoes, squash, eggplant, butter beans, tomatoes, and semolina. A true feast!
We were treated to three decadent desserts...
And the bartender ended our spectacular evening with a little taste-testing.
Hands down, one of the most amazing meals ever! Thanks Little Hen & POWER, for a great night! We'll be back for sure!
